Assistant Manager Accounting

Job Description

Organization: One of the Leading Insurance Companies in UAE.

ROLE PURPOSE:

The job holder is responsible for tracking and recording financial transactions, preparing financial statements and supporting in preparation of the management accounts, in a timely manner while working closely with the other departments within the organization. The job holder will also apply and explain rules, regulations, processes and procedures, initiate and prepare routine analysis and/or special reports and correspondence. The job holder may also have managerial responsibilities for a team or individuals to carry out day to day responsibilities. The role is involved in the month close activities and may be involved in the bookkeeping of non insurance GL accounts. The role to support Manager, Accounting in implementing the new processes and procedures and adoption of the new accounting and reporting standards.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assist in the preparation of internal controls, guidelines and policy handbooks and follow all relevant departmental policies, processes, standard operating procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
  • Analyze needs and fallbacks of various financial software applications (OF, Hyperion, etc.) to improve quality of analysis
  • Redefine financial systems set-up to be in line with the growth and plans of the organization (i.e. with new ventures, changes in regulations, holding company set-up, etc.).
  • Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of financial systems, processes and practices taking into account ‘international best practice’, improvement of business processes, cost reduction and productivity improvement.
  • Reviews account entries in the various sub-ledgers and ensures reconciliation with the general ledger. Liaising with IT in case of any discrepancies
  • Preparation of all periodic financial statements and reports including trial balance, balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement and accruals statement in line with the established accounting and financial reporting standards
  • Tracking and recording financial transactions, preparing financial statements, in a timely manner while working closely with the other departments within the organization & external auditors
  • Liaise with respective departments and ensure the submission of respective regulatory reporting.
  • Provide analysis on industry trends via news reports, peer analysis, listed insurance company analysis
  • Provide Business opportunities on tenders, quotations, current projects and developments
  • Provide ad-hoc support to Line of Business / Distribution / APIC / business requirements with the available resources.
  • Organizes and supervises the activities and work of subordinates to ensure that all work within a specific area of the activity is carried out in an efficient manner which is consistent with operating policies and procedures. Also, provide on-the-job training and constructive feedback to subordinates to support their overall development.

QUALIFICATIONS, RELEVANT CERTIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s Degree in relevant field.

Preferred Professional Certification:

Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) or any related certification.

YEARS & NATURE OF EXPERIENCE

5 to 7 years of relevant experience

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

Full professional proficiency in English where understanding of Arabic Language would be a plus
