Job Description
The Junior Quantity Surveyor supports the commercial and project teams in managing project costs, preparing measurements, evaluating variations, and ensuring accurate documentation throughout the project lifecycle. With 5–7 years of experience in the contracting sector, the ideal candidate will have solid technical knowledge, strong analytical skills, and hands-on experience with site measurements, BOQs, and cost control processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Measurement & BOQ Preparation
- Conduct detailed quantity take-offs from drawings, specifications, and site data.
- Assist in preparing Bills of Quantities (BOQs) for tenders, procurement, and project execution.
- Verify subcontractor and supplier quantities against approved drawings and site progress.
- Update quantity records and measurement sheets regularly.
- Cost Control & Financial Tracking
- Support the preparation of cost estimates, budgets, and cost plans.
- Monitor project costs and report deviations from budgeted values.
- Assist in preparing monthly cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and financial summaries.
- Track material consumption and reconcile with site records.
- Variations, Claims & Valuations
- Identify variations and assist in preparing variation orders with proper documentation.
- Support the preparation of interim payment applications and valuations.
- Coordinate with site teams to gather evidence for claims and cost adjustments.
- Assist in preparing Extension of Time (EOT) documentation when required.
- Procurement Support
- Assist in preparing RFQs, evaluating supplier/subcontractor quotations, and comparing commercial offers.
- Support the procurement team in negotiating prices and terms.
- Maintain updated records of procurement schedules and material cost data.
- Site Coordination & Documentation
- Conduct regular site visits to verify progress, quantities, and material usage.
- Coordinate with site engineers, planners, and supervisors to ensure accurate reporting.
- Maintain organized documentation including drawings, correspondence, and commercial records.
- Prepare weekly and monthly reports on quantities, progress, and commercial issues.
- Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure all commercial activities comply with company policies, project specifications, and contractual requirements.
- Assist in internal audits and quality checks related to commercial documentation.
- Support senior QS and commercial managers in risk identification and mitigation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
- 5–7 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor in a contracting or construction company.
- Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Proficiency in quantity take-off software and MS Office.
- Strong communication abilities
- Strong analytical and numerical skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
