Job Description

Specific Responsibilities for this Role

  • Perform NIPT and other molecular diagnostics as per standard protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Ensure all tests meet the standards of ISO 15189:2022, EIAC, JCI, and DHA/DOH regulatory bodies.
  • Prepare and handle clinical samples (blood, saliva, etc.) for molecular analysis using PCR, NGS, or other relevant platforms.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain molecular laboratory instruments (e.g., thermocyclers, centrifuges, sequencers).
  • Prepare reagents and consumables accurately as per SOPs.
  • Maintain proper documentation, including daily logs, maintenance records, and sample tracking.
  • Participate in internal and external quality control and quality improvement activities.
  • Ensure patient result reporting is done only when quality control parameters are within acceptable limits.
  • Recognize out-of-control or abnormal results and escalate as per policy.
  • Ensure compliance with biosafety, biohazard, and infection control practices at all times.
  • Handle, store, and dispose of hazardous chemicals and biological materials according to policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism in patient data handling.
  • Participate in training sessions and competency assessments.
  • Collaborate effectively with lab team members and clinical staff.
  • Perform other assigned duties related to laboratory operations.

Responsibilities

General Responsibilities

  • Work in all shifts as scheduled by the Laboratory Director.
  • Work in shifts as scheduled by the Laboratory Director or In-Charge.
  • Follow all institutional policies related to safety, infection control, patient safety, and quality.
  • Actively contribute to the continuous quality improvement and accreditation readiness.
  • Comply with NMC’s PCI policy and maintain the highest cleanliness and hygiene standards.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and teamwork.
  • Ensure familiarity with emergency, evacuation, and lab-specific safety procedures.
  • Assist with audits, inspections, and accreditation-related documentation

Occupational Safety and health and infection control Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Familiarize themselves and comply with all OSH and Infection Control policies, standards and procedures that are relevant for their workplace.
  • Work in accordance with the documented occupational, safety and health procedures and instructions, specific responsibilities defined in individual procedures and instructions.
  • Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems and follow safe working procedures.
  • Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
  • Not wilfully or recklessly endanger anyone’s health and safety. Take reasonable care for the health and safety of persons that may be affected by the employee’s acts or omissions at the workplace.
  • Assist with the preparation of risk assessments.
  • Attend applicable departmental safety training and follow OSHMS policies and procedures.
  • Take reasonable care of their own health and safety.
  • Cooperate with their employer with respect to any action taken by the employer to comply with OSHMS requirements.
  • Identify, label and maintain hazardous materials, MSDS and its current inventory.
  • Proper collection, Storage and disposal of needle, sharps and hazardous materials as per NMC Waste management policy
  • Must be familiar with the concept of hazard and biohazardous materials, safe handling of biohazardous materials presents in the working section.
  • Must be familiar with ergonomic, sharps and biological hazards in work area and how to handle them.
  • Should be familiar with MSDS to determine health hazards, and routes of exposures for chemicals.
  • Know the CODE Brown policy and other applicable laboratory policies and procedures. 

Prevention and Control of Infection (PCI): 

  • PCI is everyone’s responsibility. All staff are required to read and implement the NMC PCI Policy and Strategy in an effort to maintain the highest possible standards of cleanliness at all times, thus reducing the risk of infection in patients, staff and visitors.
  • The strictest hand hygiene, 5 moments of hand hygiene, bare below the elbows and environmental care, will be expected of all staff, including the post holder, at all times

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s/ Master Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology in Molecular Biology 
  2. Currently licensed with DOH/DHA/MOH as Molecular technologist.
  3. Not less than two (2) years of Medical Laboratory experience.
  4. Knowledge of molecular techniques such as PCR, DNA extraction, electrophoresis, and NGS.
  5. Familiarity with molecular automation systems.
  6. Fluent in spoken & written English, Arabic language is desirable, but not essential
  7. Ability to learn and handle automation & IT programs is desirable but not essential
