The Pharmacy Technician supports pharmacists in the preparation, dispensing, and management of medications while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and organizational policies. The role involves assisting with prescription processing, inventory management, patient service, and maintaining accurate pharmacy records to ensure safe and efficient pharmacy operations.
Responsibilities
- Assist pharmacists in preparing, dispensing, and labeling medications accurately and efficiently.
- Receive and process prescriptions in accordance with established pharmacy procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Verify prescription information, patient details, and medication orders prior to processing.
- Maintain accurate records of prescriptions, medication dispensing, and inventory transactions.
- Manage medication inventory, including receiving, stocking, and monitoring pharmaceutical products and supplies.
- Conduct routine checks of medication expiration dates and ensure proper storage conditions.
- Assist with replenishing stock levels and coordinating medication orders with approved suppliers.
- Provide professional and courteous customer service to patients, healthcare professionals, and visitors.
- Respond to routine inquiries regarding prescriptions, medication availability, and pharmacy services, escalating clinical inquiries to the pharmacist.
- Support the processing of insurance claims, billing activities, and payment transactions as applicable.
- Ensure compliance with pharmacy regulations, licensing requirements, and organizational policies.
- Adhere to patient confidentiality and data privacy standards in all aspects of work.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe pharmacy environment in accordance with infection control and safety standards.
- Operate pharmacy management systems and electronic medical record (EMR) systems accurately.
- Assist pharmacists in medication reconciliation and medication distribution activities when required.
- Participate in inventory audits, quality assurance activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Report medication discrepancies, incidents, or potential safety concerns to the supervising pharmacist.
- Collaborate effectively with pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care.
- Stay current with pharmacy procedures, medication updates, and regulatory changes through ongoing training and professional development.
Qualifications
- Diploma in Pharmacy Technology or Pharmacy Technician
- Valid Pharmacy Technician DOH license/registration or DHA license
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience
