Job Description
The Special Needs Teacher (also known as SEN Teacher) is responsible for teaching and supporting students with a range of physical, emotional, behavioral, or learning disabilities. They create inclusive learning environments tailored to individual educational needs, ensuring each child can achieve their full potential both academically and socially.
- Individualized Instruction:
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students based on assessments and in collaboration with parents, specialists, and other educators.
- Adapt lesson plans and teaching methods to suit diverse learning needs and abilities.
- Classroom Support:
- Provide one-on-one or small group instruction when necessary.
- Manage classroom behavior effectively using positive behavior strategies.
- Promote social, emotional, and cognitive development.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with general education teachers, teaching assistants, therapists (e.g., speech, occupational), and school counselors.
- Attend IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and staff development sessions.
- Assessment & Progress Monitoring:
- Evaluate students’ progress and adapt teaching strategies as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and behavior.
- Report regularly to parents and school leadership.
- Inclusion Advocacy:
- Foster an inclusive environment where all students feel safe, supported, and respected.
- Promote awareness and understanding of disabilities within the school community.
Skills
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Valid teaching certification with a Special Education endorsement.
- Experience:
- Previous experience working with children with special needs is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with various disabilities (e.g., autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, physical impairments).
- Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and adaptability.
- Ability to develop creative and engaging teaching strategies.
Arabic speaker preferred
