Job Purpose

GEMS Schools in the UAE are seeking an Assistant ICT Engineer to support the delivery of ICT services across the school. The successful candidate will assist in providing technical support to administrative and educational staff, helping to ensure the effective use of ICT systems, applications, and digital learning technologies.

The Assistant ICT Engineer will support the maintenance, troubleshooting, and day-to-day operation of the school’s ICT infrastructure, ensuring that technology resources remain functional, secure, and available to support teaching, learning, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Support

  • Provide first-line technical support to staff and students for hardware, software, network, and classroom technology issues.
  • Assist in diagnosing and resolving ICT-related incidents in a timely and professional manner.
  • Log, monitor, and update support requests through the school’s ticketing or service management system.
  • Escalate complex technical issues to the ICT Engineer or relevant support teams as required.

ICT Systems and Infrastructure

  • Support the maintenance and operation of the school’s ICT infrastructure, including desktops, laptops, printers, interactive displays, telephony systems, and audiovisual equipment.
  • Assist with the installation, configuration, and deployment of computer hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
  • Support the monitoring and maintenance of network connectivity, Wi-Fi access points, and classroom technology.
  • Assist with routine system checks, updates, and preventative maintenance activities.

Educational Technology Support

  • Ensure classroom ICT equipment is operational and ready to support teaching and learning activities.
  • Provide support during school events, examinations, assemblies, and presentations requiring ICT or audiovisual equipment.
  • Assist staff with the effective use of school-approved digital platforms and educational applications.
  • Support the setup and maintenance of learning technologies used across the school.

Asset Management and Compliance

  • Maintain accurate records of ICT equipment, software licenses, and inventory.
  • Assist with asset audits and stock management activities.
  • Support the implementation of ICT policies, procedures, and security standards.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with GEMS ICT governance and data protection requirements.

Information Security and Safeguarding

  • Support the implementation of cybersecurity measures, including antivirus updates and user access management.
  • Promote safe and responsible use of technology within the school environment.
  • Report safeguarding, e-safety, or cybersecurity concerns in accordance with school policies and procedures.
  • Assist in ensuring ICT systems support a secure and safe learning environment for students.

Health and Safety

  • Ensure ICT equipment is maintained and used in accordance with health and safety requirements.
  • Support safe installation and relocation of ICT equipment when required.
  • Maintain a safe and organised ICT workspace and storage area.

Skills

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (2) years of hands-on experience in managing and maintaining ICT infrastructure, preferably within a school environment.
  • Strong communication skills, keen attention to detail, and effective technical problem-solving abilities.
  • Capable of multitasking and working efficiently under pressure during peak periods.
