Consultant Pediatric Gastroenterology (SKMC)

Job Description

We are seeking an accomplished Consultant Pediatric Gastroenterologist to join our multidisciplinary pediatric team. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive diagnostic, therapeutic, and consultative services for infants, children, and adolescents with gastrointestinal, liver, pancreatic, and nutritional disorders.

The ideal candidate will possess American Board Certification in Pediatric Gastroenterology and demonstrate proven leadership experience in a tertiary healthcare setting, including service development, quality improvement initiatives, physician mentoring, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

• Provide expert evaluation, diagnosis, and management of pediatric gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, pancreatic, and nutritional disorders.
• Perform and interpret pediatric gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures, including upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy.
• Manage complex inpatient and outpatient pediatric gastroenterology cases.
• Collaborate closely with pediatricians, pediatric surgeons, neonatologists, dietitians, radiologists, and other specialists.
• Participate in multidisciplinary clinics and case discussions.
• Ensure delivery of evidence-based, patient-centered care in accordance with international best practices.

Leadership Responsibilities

• Provide clinical leadership within the Pediatric Gastroenterology service.
• Support strategic planning, growth, and development of pediatric gastroenterology programs.
• Lead quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
• Mentor and supervise junior medical staff and allied healthcare professionals.
• Contribute to departmental governance, policy development, and operational excellence.
• Promote a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and clinical excellence.

Academic & Research Responsibilities

• Participate in teaching activities for medical students, residents, and fellows.
• Engage in clinical research and scholarly activities.
• Present at departmental meetings, conferences, and educational events.
• Support the development of evidence-based clinical pathways and protocols.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements

• Medical Degree (MD, MBBS, or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
• Completion of an accredited residency in Pediatrics.
• Completion of an accredited Fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology.
• American Board Certification in Pediatric Gastroenterology (mandatory).
• Current and unrestricted medical licensure or eligibility for licensure.
• Advanced training and competency in pediatric endoscopic procedures.

Experience

• Minimum 7–10 years of post-board certification experience as a Consultant Pediatric Gastroenterologist in a recognized tertiary or academic healthcare institution.
• Demonstrated leadership experience, including:
• Clinical program leadership.
• Departmental or service-line management.
• Quality and patient safety initiatives.
• Mentorship and physician development.
• Experience in pediatric hepatology and nutrition services is highly desirable.
