About Al Dhafra Hospitals:
Al Dhafra hospitals consist of six hospitals – Madinat Zayed, Ghayathi, Marfa, Delma, and Liwa – and four clinics – Bida Mutawa, Abu Al-Abyad, Sir Bani Yas, and Al Dhafra Family Medicine Center (DFMC). The network covers 16 specialties, providing both inpatient and outpatient services including internal medicine, pediatrics, gynecology & obstetrics, general surgery, anesthesia, pharmacy, laboratory, and diagnostic radiology.
Job Summary
The Outpatient Coding Officer is responsible for reviewing patient health records and accurately assigning ICD-10-CM and CPT codes for outpatient and emergency department (ED) records. The role ensures correct billing, compliance with UAE regulations, and collaboration with physicians and Revenue Cycle Management teams to resolve coding and reimbursement issues.
Key Responsibilities
Assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes for outpatient and ED medical records.
Capture charges for emergency department services.
Ensure coding accuracy and completeness according to documentation and UAE regulatory guidelines.
Consult physicians or other healthcare providers when additional information or clarification is needed.
Utilize coding tools, encoder software, and online references effectively.
Apply official coding guidelines, including ICD-CM, CPT, AHA Coding Clinic, and AHIMA standards.
Review health records to determine principal and secondary diagnoses and procedures.
Validate charges and ensure correct linkage of diagnosis to procedure codes.
Track and resolve documentation or coding issues in a timely manner.
Investigate claims denials or appeals as directed.
Maintain knowledge of coding and reimbursement updates, UAE laws, and hospital policies.
Collaborate with Revenue Cycle Management teams to optimize billing and reimbursement.
Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
Qualifications
Required:
Special certification in coding
Strong knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle systems
Ability to analyze physician documentation in routine outpatient records
Proficiency with encoder software and online coding tools
Familiarity with ICD-10-CM, CPT, AHA Coding Clinic, and AHIMA ethical standards
Desired:
Previous experience in a hospital or clinical coding environment
