Job Description
Job Purpose:
To deliver outstanding learning experiences in Performing Arts that inspire creativity, expression, and personal growth. The Performing Arts teacher will contribute to the holistic development of every student through the values of Always Learning, Caring, One Team, and Excellence, while embracing the IB learner attributes and NCfE vocational Principles.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching and Learning
- Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality Performing Arts lessons aligned with the IB Philosophy and NCfE standards.
- Foster creativity, confidence, and self-expression through engaging, inquiry-based experiences in drama, music, dance, and performance.
- Differentiate teaching to support a range of abilities and learning styles, ensuring every student achieves their personal best.
- Encourage student reflection, collaboration, and appreciation for the performing arts within and beyond the classroom.
Curriculum and Assessment
- Contribute to the development and review of the Performing Arts curriculum to ensure alignment with PYP frameworks and NCfE vocational standards.
- Design authentic, process-oriented assessment tasks that celebrate student creativity and track growth in skills, knowledge, and conceptual understanding.
- Use a range of formative and summative assessment strategies in line with PYP practices.
- Maintain accurate records of student achievement and contribute to reports, portfolios, and performances.
Collaboration and Community
- Work collaboratively with Arts Team to integrate Performing Arts into units of inquiry and transdisciplinary learning.
- Participate in academy events such as productions, assemblies, concerts, and community arts initiatives.
- Build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues, fostering a culture of care and inclusivity.
Professional Growth
- Demonstrate a commitment to Always Learning by engaging in ongoing professional development and reflective practice.
- Stay informed about current trends in arts education, IB developments, and technology integration.
- Contribute to a culture of Excellence by sharing ideas, mentoring peers, and striving for continuous improvement.
Skills
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Performing Arts, Drama, Music, Dance, or a related field. A teaching qualification (e.g., B.Ed., PGCE, or equivalent) is required.
- Experience: Experience with the IB PYP framework and/or British/NCfE is highly desirable.
- Minimum 2 years of experience teaching Performing Arts in a school setting, preferably within an international or IB school.
- Language: Proficiency in English; Arabic is an advantage but not required
- Skills: Strong classroom management, lesson planning, and the ability to inspire students of varying abilities and age levels.
