Reporting to the Respiratory Therapy Manager, the Respiratory Therapist is responsible for assessing and treating

patients with both acute and chronic dysfunction of the cardiopulmonary system by leveraging best practices in patients’

healthcare in alignment with MH and DOH/DHA policies, procedures, guidelines and standards

Responsibilities

  • Delivers advanced respiratory care, including complex assessments, airway management, tracheostomy changes, chest physiotherapy, and bronchial hygiene therapy, while supporting team members with cases requiring higher clinical expertise.
  • Performs hemodynamic monitoring, arterial and capillary blood gas sampling, POCT testing, and administers inhaled medications strictly as ordered by the physician.
  • Monitors patient responses, adjusts therapies based on clinical assessment, physiologic data, and lab results, and escalates concerns appropriately to ensure safe and effective care.
  • Responds to all levels of emergencies, assists physicians during cardiac/respiratory arrest, and provides advanced emergency airway care in alignment with organizational protocols.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to deliver individualized, evidence‑based care, ensuring timely interventions, continuity across the care pathway, and culturally sensitive family engagement.
  • Evaluates patient progress, identifies deterioration, prioritizes care needs, and modifies treatment plans accordingly while maintaining high‑quality clinical documentation and comprehensive handovers.
  • Participates in patient and family education, promotes patient rights and dignity, and supports a culturally inclusive environment that enhances quality of life.
  • Ensures safe operation of respiratory equipment, coordinates with biomedical engineering for maintenance and repairs, and demonstrates professional accountability, adherence to scope of practice, and ongoing competency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy (or equivalent), with minimum 2 years’ post‑qualification experience in a related field; must demonstrate ability to apply current research, and possess teaching/mentoring experience.
  • Registered Polysomnographic Technician (RPSGT) certification, DOH/DHA license, active national registration, and valid BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
  • Strong professional skills including excellent communication, ability to work independently and within a team, solid knowledge of respiratory therapy best practices, and strong analytical/problem‑solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity in patient communication, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and fluency in written and spoken English.
