Job Description

  • Provides comprehensive and diligent cardio-thoracic surgical care to all patients, including pre- and post-operative care and such surgical procedures as are within incumbent’s competence.
  • Assumes after-hours responsibility for the care of cardio-thoracic cases and makes daily rounds for those hospitalized.
  • Provides consultation services to physicians and other surgeons and other specialists if and when required.
  • Orders diagnostic laboratory studies and X-ray examinations, determining the diagnosis and prescribing applicable therapy.
  • Determines the eligibility of patients for admission.
  • Identifies need for tests or follow-up visits.
  • Supports Continuous Quality Improvement.
  • Exercises effective interpersonal skills in dealings with department staff, with associates and with Management.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding patient information and regarding administrative matters of a confidential nature.
  • Evidences dependability in carrying out the commitments and obligations of the position.
  • Demonstrates the ability to listen to others in promoting effective communication.
  • Develops thorough understanding of policies and procedures of the hospital and demonstrates respect for them.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Head of the Department.
  • To follow appropriate international guidelines, DHA regulations & Joint Commission International norms while treating or managing patients as well as while discharging their professional duties.   

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an approved medical school plus one year of internship and three years of residency; certification by the American Board of Cardio-thoracic Surgeons or Member of the Royal College of Physicians (or its equivalent).
  • At least five (5) years of practice as a cardio-thoracic surgeon with two (2) or more years as a licensed specialist. 
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. 
  • Performs a variety of tasks. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. 
  • Excellent command of oral and written English. Knowledge of Arabic language is desirable but not essential.
  • Current licensure in country of origin and with DHA license as a specialist cardio-thoracic surgeon to practice in Dubai, UAE.
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, superiors, patients & families.
