Job Description

  • Performs all management functions and duties of a general surgeon and provides expert medical care for ambulatory and hospitalized patients, including pre- and post-operative cases and such surgical procedures as are within incumbent’s competence.
  • Performs professional duties in the OPD at which out-patients surgical care is to be rendered to patients as needed.
  • Provides consultation services to physicians and other surgeons and other specialists if and when required.
  • Assumes after-hours responsibilities for the care of assigned surgical cases and makes daily rounds for those hospitalized.
  • Orders diagnostic laboratory studies and X-ray examinations, determining the diagnosis and prescribing applicable therapy.
  • Determines the eligibility of patients for admission.
  • Adheres to the By-laws and Rules and Regulations of the Medical Department and assures that work performed is in keeping with the established standards of the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Hospitals.
  • Consults with anesthesiologist on the choice of anesthesia to be used.
  • Participates in and contributes to in-service activities such as lectures, conferences and rounds.
  • Participates in the Quality Assurance activities of the Service (morbidity and mortality reviews, peer review activities etc).
  • Participates in hospital committee functions as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the head of the department.
  • To follow appropriate international guidelines, DHA regulations & Joint Commission International norms while treating or managing patients as well as while discharging their professional duties.   

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an approved medical school plus one year of internship and three years of residency; certification by the American Board of Surgical medicine or Member of the Royal College of Surgeons (or its equivalent).
  • At least five (5) years of practice limited to surgery since certification.
  • Excellent command of oral and written English. Knowledge of Arabic language is desirable but not essential.
  • Must be highly skilled in the particular field of practice, with mature clinical judgment and ability to provide professional leadership. He / she must have a thorough knowledge of Surgical Department policies and procedures with particular reference to the obligation to maintain the confidentiality of his work; personality which inspires confidence and trust in his patients; and adhere to Bylaws, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Organization.
  • Current licensure in country of origin and with DHA license to practice general surgery in Dubai, UAE.
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, superiors, patients & families.
