Job Description

This role will provide comprehensive inpatient neonatal care at King’s College Hospital under the

supervision of Consultant/ Specialist Neonatologists. The Hospitalist will support the day-to-day clinical

management of admitted neonates, ensuring continuity of care, accurate documentation, and adherence

  • to hospital policies and neonatal care protocols.

The post-holder will:

  • Provide day-to-day clinical care for neonatal inpatients under consultant supervision, including monitoring, treatment implementation, and coordination of care plans.
  • Manage a caseload of neonates with a range of conditions, including preterm and high-risk

newborns, primarily within inpatient neonatal units.

  • Escalate clinical concerns promptly to supervising consultants and support implementation of

agreed management plans.

  • Ensure high standards of patient safety, quality of care, and clinical outcomes in line with

King’s College Hospital policies and international neonatal care standards.

  • Work closely with Consultant/ Specialist Neonatologists, nursing staff, and allied health

professionals to deliver coordinated and family-centred care.

Key Accountabilities:

Clinical

  • Investigate, assess, and manage patients admitted or attending King’s College Hospital under the supervision of consultant physicians/surgeons across a range of specialties.
  • Diagnose and treat patients in line with established standards of best practice, reviewing investigation results promptly and modifying treatment as necessary.
  • Liaise with supervising consultants and senior clinicians on decision-making for inpatient care, including pre- and post-operative management plans.
  • Perform ward-based procedures within granted privileges, ensuring appropriate consent is obtained, and escalate care promptly for deteriorating patients.
  • Comply with King’s College Hospital protocols for outpatient consultations, day care, inpatient admission/discharge, and follow-up care.
  • Ensure adherence to UAE medical health authority regulations and hospital clinical governance standards.
  • Accurately document patient information in a timely manner, maintaining clear and complete medical records in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing appropriate explanations and updates on care plans.

Clinical Governance & Personal Development

  • Attend all relevant Neonatology clinical meetings unless on approved leave.
  • Participate fully in all aspects of clinical governance making a significant contribution to clinical audit and risk management activities.
  • Take an active role in identifying and reporting clinical risk.
  • Contribute to standard setting within the organisation.
  • Commit to continual personal development (CPD) and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice is followed.
  • Maintain own CPD through attendance at any courses and/or study days necessary to ensure that professional development requirements are met. Attend training and events organised by the clinic or other agencies, where appropriate.
  • Take responsibility for individual learning, development and performance and be willing to demonstrate professional activities and skills to peer reviewers.
  • Ensure that a record is maintained of professional development activities in order to inform annual appraisal.

Administrative

  • Effectively manage own time, workload and resources.
  • Comply with the UAE medical health authorities’ requirements in order to maintain medical licence.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of computer-based patient records.
  • Ensure confidentiality in all aspects of data management relating to patients, carers, colleagues, and other healthcare workers.
  • Maintain business confidentiality outside the organisation with respect to financial, clinical and administrative activities of King’s College Hospital.

Managerial

  • Assume other administrative or clinical duties as needed.
  • Be willing to deputise and delegate when appropriate.
  • Support colleagues with the smooth running of the hospital by providing cover and assistance during periods of absence.
  • Welcome calls (although infrequent) from the consultants and management team, and physician on duty while out of working hours.
  • Assist in the financial management of King’s College Hospital- . by:

o Working effectively with individuals in other agencies to meet patients’ needs.

o Utilising the organisation’s resources appropriately and efficiently.

o Whilst always looking ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to agreed standards continually review working practices to provide the most efficient use of resources.

Quality

  • Strive to maintain quality in clinical care, alert other team members to issues of quality, and participate in quality improvement activity.
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on personal and team activities and identifying potential improvements.
  • Adhere to Hospital Policies and Procedures e.g. JCI, Code Blue, infection control, working hours and overtime.
  • Comply with Health and Safety Regulations, ensuring safe working practices in a safe working environment

Education & Qualification, Experience, Training, Knowledge & Skill:

Education & Qualification

  • UAE Medical Health Authority License (DHA).
  • MBBS & Master’s degree
  • Post Graduation/Diploma in related specialty.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of clinical practice in similar setup – NICU

Training, Knowledge & Skills

  • Awareness and understanding of King’s College Hospital (KCH) policies and initiatives.
  • Resuscitation Certificate as per the specialty& Demonstrable ongoing and active Continues Personal Development (CPD)
  • Supports quality patient care by showing empathy, maintaining patient dignity, and following proper protocols.
  • Supports and guides junior team members, offering advice and assistance if required.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with a high level of confidentiality and discretion, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), with the ability to manage digital documentation and communication effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, patients, and stakeholders.
