Job Description
The Specialist Physician shares the same responsibility of the Consultant Physician for delivering high quality, evidence-based and patient-centered care. The post holder is expected to be an example of clinical excellence within the Division and contributes to the supervision and training of junior medical staff.
Responsibilities
•   Supports and adheres to all hospital departmental and divisional initiatives, policies and procedures.Â
•   Supports and participates in the organization’s performance management system, including peer review and the productivity and utilization review processes.Â
•   Assists with Consultant staff in ensuring that adequate medical coverage is provided within the Division at all timesÂ
•   Attends Divisional meetings as invitedÂ
•   Supports the reporting, investigation, and response to untoward incidentsÂ
•   Assumes other administrative or clinical duties as requested by the Consultant StaffÂ
•   Under the supervision of the Consultant Physician, diagnoses and treats patients according to established standards of best practice for the post holder’s specialty. The Specialist’s clinical duties include but are not limited to the following:Â
•   Assists the Consultant Physician in supervising the activities of junior medical staff, and jointly assumes responsibility for the care they provideÂ
•   Complies with all hospital polices regarding admissions, consultations, daily patient care, surgical procedures, discharge protocols, outpatient and follow up practicesÂ
•   Practices appropriate utilization of the organization’s resourcesÂ
•   Leads ward rounds; reassesses both inpatients and outpatients on a regular basis, in line with established best practiceÂ
•   Accurately documents all relevant clinical information in a clear and timely fashion in accordance with established proceduresÂ
•   Regularly reviews results of all investigations and modifies treatment as requiredÂ
•   Liaises with other medical specialties and support services for additional input as requiredÂ
•   Actively participates in multi-disciplinary meetings to help plan effective, safe and holistic care for individual patientsÂ
•   Ensures preparation of patients for all procedures including obtaining informed consentÂ
•   Accepts clinically appropriate referrals from the Emergency Department, primary care, other departments, specialty clinics, walk in patients, and patients referred from other hospitalsÂ
•   Participates in and supports the Consultant Physician in ensuring the provision of out of hours on call) coverage on a rotational basis including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays as requiredÂ
•   Communicates clinical information to patients and the patient’s family and friends (with consent of the patient) in a timely mannerÂ
•   Maintains a good working relationship with members of staff and promotes collaboration and a team-based approach to patient careÂ
•   Performs other clinical  as assignedÂ
•   Helps support quality improvement initiatives within the DivisionÂ
•   Supports a culture of regular audit and encourages the use of audit results for improving clinical practiceÂ
•   Supports the reporting, investigation, and response to untoward incidentsÂ
•   Promotes and participates in clinical research and publicationÂ
•   Promoting and assisting in the instruction, guidance and supervision of junior medical staff (required)Â
•   Keeps abreast of the current, relevant literature and the latest trends and technologies in the industryÂ
•   Participates in clinical research and publicationÂ
•   Corresponding Activities performed by the roleÂ
•   Complying consistently with facility policies, procedures and practices and ensuring alignment with SSMC facilities policiesÂ
•   Completing and maintaining regulatory requirements including: licensure and certification and other mandatory training within established time framesÂ
•   Maintaining confidentiality with regards to any information exchanged or received in the current capacity of role in accordance with facility policyÂ
•   Maintaining positive and effective working relationships within the department/division and also with other departments/sections within the facilityÂ
•   Performing any other duties as may be assigned relevant to the basic  of the roleÂ
•   Adhering to requirements of the Occupational Health and safety guidelines and infection control guidelinesÂ
•   Understanding and adhering to emergency preparedness plans/policiesÂ
•   Recognizing the necessity of continuously developing skills and acquiring additional knowledge appropriate to the positionÂ
•   Dressing appropriately to meet the expectations of the specific work area and in alignment with the Occupational Health and Safety policiesÂ
•   Building key partnerships within the organization for pursuing client-centered, comprehensive, integrated systems of careÂ
•   Complying with any regulations related to mentoring, training and development of UAE nationals staffÂ

Qualifications
Experience :-
Required:
• Tier 1: No additional experience is required post board certification.
• Tier 2: NLT 2 years of clinical experience post qualification in an internationally accredited institute.
UAE nationals:
• No additional experience required post board certification
For UAE Nationals + Non-UAE Nationals enrolled in HAAD accredited residency programs:
• No experience required post board certification
• C. Tier 3: NLT 3 years clinical experience as Specialist post qualification in an internationally accredited institute
