Responsible for: Arabic Teacher Role

Main purpose

The teacher will:

Fulfil the professional responsibilities of a teacher and consistently meet the expectations set out in the UK and UAE Teachers’ Standards

Qualifications and Experience

  • A mandatory Bachelor’s degree and a recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, B.Ed.).
  • Successful Arabic teaching experience within the British Curriculum of at least 2 years (desirable).
  • Experience teaching in the UAE (desirable).

Skills and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the British National Curriculum.
  • Knowledge of adaptive teaching and learning strategies.
  • A good understanding of how children learn.
  • Ability to adapt teaching to meet pupils’ needs.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with pupils.
  • Knowledge of guidance and requirements around safeguarding children.
  • Knowledge of effective behaviour management strategies.
  • Good ICT skills, particularly using ICT to support learning.
  • Safe and ethical use of AI to support learning.
  • An understanding of the UAE policies and inspection framework (desirable).

Duties and responsibilities

Teaching

  • Develop lesson plans in accordance with the school curriculum and national educational standards.
  • Deliver engaging and interactive lessons that cater to different learning styles and abilities.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, cultural awareness, and diversity.
  • Assess and evaluate students’ learning progress using a variety of methods such as quizzes, exams, projects, and presentations.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and parents on their academic performance and behavior.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and school staff to develop interdisciplinary projects and activities.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest teaching techniques, technologies, and resources in the field of Arabic language and literature.
  • Participate in professional development activities such as workshops, conferences, and training sessions.
  • Provide guidance and support to students who need extra help or academic assistance.
  • Attend staff meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and other school events as required.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of students’ attendance, grades, and assignments.
  • Uphold the school’s policies and procedures related to academic integrity, student behavior, and safety.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and the wider school community.
  • Actively participate in school activities and events, such as sports day, talent shows, and charity events.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching strategies and adjust them as needed to ensure student success.

Whole-school organisation, strategy and development

  • Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the school’s policies, practices and procedures, so as to support the school’s vision and values.
  • Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school.
  • Work with others on curriculum and pupil development to secure co-ordinated outcomes.
  • Provide cover, in the unforeseen circumstance that another teacher is unable to teach.
  • Deliver assigned extra-curricular activities before, during and after school hours.

Health, safety and discipline

  • Promote the safety and well-being of pupils.
  • Maintain good order and discipline among pupils, managing behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment.
  • Follow the school’s centralised behaviour policy.

Professional development

  • Take part in the school’s appraisal procedures.
  • Take part in further training and development in order to improve own teaching.
  • Take part in the appraisal and professional development of others, where appropriate.
  • Contribute to the school’s professional development program where appropriate.
  • Engage with wider SIG development opportunities

Communication

  • Communicate effectively with pupils, parents and carers.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, line managers and the leadership team.
  • Communicate effectively with external visitors, inspectors and government officials.

Working with colleagues and other relevant professionals

  • Collaborate and work with colleagues and other relevant professionals within and beyond the school.
  • Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues.

Personal and professional conduct

  • Uphold public trust in the profession and maintain high standards of ethics and behaviour, within and outside school.
  • Have proper and professional regard for the ethos, policies and practices of the school, and maintain high standards of attendance and punctuality.
  • Understand and act within the statutory frameworks setting out their professional duties and responsibilities.
  • Fully adhere to the UAE laws and customs at all times.

Management of staff and resources

  • Direct and supervise support staff assigned to them, and where appropriate, other teachers.
  • Contribute to the recruitment and professional development of other teachers and support staff.
  • Deploy resources delegated to them.
  • Ensure resources are deployed with equitable access and high efficacy.

Safeguarding

  • Work in line with statutory safeguarding guidance (e.g. Keeping Children Safe in Education) and our safeguarding and child protection policies.
  • Work with the designated safeguarding lead (DSL) to promote the best interests of pupils, including sharing concerns where necessary.
  • Promote the safeguarding of all pupils in the school at all times

Other areas of responsibility

  • Ensure full compliance with all regulations, policies, frameworks mandated by the KHDA, BSO and the UAE Ministry of Education.
  • Support the leadership team in the preparation and execution of the KHDA inspection process, developing and following post-inspection action plans.
  • Contribute to the UAE National Agenda success.
  • Maintain positive and professional communication with all the KHDA and Government Officials and represent the school at all required forums and meetings at the request of the Principal
