Role Overview

The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and developing engineering teams while driving technical excellence, delivery ownership, and engineering quality across the software development lifecycle. This role combines people leadership with strong execution, ensuring teams consistently deliver scalable, secure, and high-quality software aligned with business objectives.

The Engineering Manager is expected to raise engineering standards, foster a culture of accountability and ownership, and continuously improve the team’s technical capabilities, delivery practices, and operational excellence. Working closely with Product, Architecture, QA, Infrastructure, and Security teams, this role ensures engineering delivers reliable, maintainable, and business-critical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop software engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Raise engineering standards by promoting high-quality software development practices, sound technical decision-making, and engineering discipline.
  • Drive engineering excellence through coaching, technical guidance, and continuous feedback.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development of engineering team members.
  • Build a high-performing engineering culture focused on quality, accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.

Delivery Ownership

  • Own the successful delivery of engineering initiatives from planning through production.
  • Ensure engineering teams consistently deliver high-quality software within agreed timelines while maintaining technical excellence.
  • Identify delivery risks, remove obstacles, and drive teams toward successful outcomes.
  • Hold teams accountable for software quality, reliability, maintainability, and operational readiness.
  • Continuously improve engineering execution, development practices, and delivery effectiveness.

Technical Excellence

  • Provide technical leadership and contribute to architectural and design discussions.
  • Ensure engineering solutions are scalable, maintainable, secure, and aligned with established engineering standards.
  • Drive adoption of software engineering best practices, including code quality, testing, observability, and operational excellence.
  • Champion continuous improvement by reducing technical debt and improving system reliability and maintainability.
  • Support engineers in solving complex technical challenges while encouraging sound engineering judgment.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Partner closely with Product, QA, Infrastructure, Security, and Architecture teams to deliver business-critical solutions.
  • Translate business priorities into clear engineering objectives and measurable outcomes.
  • Ensure engineering decisions balance technical quality, business impact, and long-term platform sustainability.

Engineering Excellence

  • Establish and monitor engineering metrics to improve delivery performance, software quality, and operational reliability.
  • Promote continuous improvement across engineering processes, development workflows, and team effectiveness.
  • Drive accountability for production readiness, operational stability, and service reliability.
  • Ensure engineering practices comply with security, regulatory, and operational standards where applicable.

Role Requirements

Experience & Background

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2–3 years leading engineering teams.
  • Proven experience delivering complex software platforms in fintech, trading, financial services, or other high-scale technology environments.
  • Experience leading engineering teams responsible for production systems and business-critical applications.
  • Experience working in Agile software development environments.

Technical Competencies

  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles, modern system architecture, and scalable application design.
  • Experience with cloud-native applications, distributed systems, and modern software development practices.
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD, software quality practices, observability, and operational excellence.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership while balancing long-term engineering quality with delivery objectives.
