Health Care Assistant
Position Description:
To assist the registered nurse in the provision of indirect and limited direct care for patients under the supervision of the RN given to patients throughout the life span.
Position Responsibility:
- •Prioritizes work.
- •Provides general hygiene, personal care and activities of daily living for the patient under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse.
- •Maintains a safe and clean environment for patient / staff.
- •Decontaminates equipment as per biomedical department’s guidelines.
- •Carries out routine damp dusting of patients rooms, store room stored equipment as per established routine and maintains records of such.
- •Demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to render care and services based on age appropriateness and developmental need of patient.
- •Responds promptly and positively to patients, families, co-workers, and all others in a respectful, courteous, and confidential manner.
- •Ensures patient rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for patient.
- •Escort patients to other departments as needed.
- •Acts as an interdepartmental courier.
- •Supports the effective functioning of unit routine, i.e. answers call bells, prepares charts, etc.
- •Performs additional duties as specified by Head Nurse, Team Leader or Senior Staff Nurse.
- •Responds appropriately in crisis and emergency situations.
- •Measures and records daily:
- •Fridge (Medication and nutrition) temperature
- •Linen warmer temperature
- •Glucometers daily quality check
- •Cleaning schedules
- •Accountable for accurate charging and store organization
- •Appropriate use of the sick leave system
- •Maintains a safe, hygienic JCI standard unit environment.
Position Qualification:
•2 years nursing assistant or midwife experience.
•Fluent in English, spoken and written.
•Arabic speaker desirable.
Responsibilities
- Prioritizes tasks ensuring effective functioning of the area.
- Keeps all medical equipment and examination rooms clean and ready for use.
- Ensures a safe working environment through strict compliance with Hospital Policy and Procedures regarding safety, infection and security.
- Ensure clinic stock as per the needs and no expired items.
- Maintains a safe, hygienic working environment in accordance with Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) standards.
- Ensures the completion of environmental assessment of the clinic.
- Ensures the Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) and Mandatory Education are completed within the time frame.
- Performs additional duties as specified by the Senior Staff Nurse or Clinic/Nurse Manager.
Qualifications
- Minimum of nine (9) years of basic education with eighteen (18) months – two (2) years of Nurse Training, or a minimum of twelve (12) years of basic education with one (1) year of Nurse Training – six (6) months Health Care Assistant certification course
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of one (1) to two (2) years of experience as a nursing assistant
- Fluent in English, spoken and written
- Arabic speaker is desirable
- Demonstrates skills in assessment of patient, and family’s physical and psychological needs
- Demonstrates skill in coordination and planning of care and prioritizes care based on individual needs
