Job Description

The role is responsible for independently conducting all operations related to occupational therapy by observing all standards of operational rules and procedures. The role might be responsible for managing staff. With expertise in Music therapy, Art Therapy, ADL Training, Car simulation, and Splinting.

Key Responsibilities of the Role

Managerial

  • Supervising junior staff and ensuring their abidance to going rules and policies as applied and implemented in the Section/Department/Facility
  • Being involved in the daily management of workload allocation within the specialist area, taking into account the changing/competing demands and making decisions about prioritization of caseloads
  • Being responsible for the maintenance of an effective duty roster covering long durations taking into consideration optimal resource allocations of junior staff within the department
  • Assisting in the performance appraisal exercise of the junior staff
  • Maintaining sufficient inventory of material supplies and equipment for the performance of duties
  • Reporting shortage of materials to supervisor at the earliest convenience, ordering and approving replenishments when necessary
  • Assessing and ordering appropriate materials/equipment following discussion with senior staff
  • Might be having budget responsibilities depending on the delegation of responsibilities in section/department

Technical

  • Undertaking client-centered & occupation focused assessments & interventions
  • Undertaking full comprehensive & accurate assessment of patients physical, psychological and social needs including those patients with diverse or complex presentations/multi pathologies; using investigative and analytical skills, and formulating individualized management and treatment plans, using advanced clinical reasoning and utilizing a wide range of treatment knowledge, skills and options to formulate a specialized program of care
  • Being alert to the needs of vulnerable patients group including risk assessment and taking appropriate action when required
  • Accepting clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients, and organizing this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time. To assist more junior staff in this
  • Being highly skilled in a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively with patients and carers to progress rehabilitation and treatment programs. This will include patients who may have difficulties understanding or communicating. For example, patients may be dysphasic, depressed, deaf, blind, unable to accept the diagnosis or whose first language is not English
  • Evaluating patient’s progress, reassessing and altering treatment programs if required
  • Being responsible for the safe and competent use of all therapy and independence equipment. Ensure that more junior occupational therapy staff/support staff attain competency prior to use
  • Being responsible for maintaining own accurate and comprehensive patient treatment records and those of staff responsible to the post holder, in line with professional standards of practice and within the parameters laid by the section/department/facility
  • Training, supervising, and managing the performance of junior occupational therapy staff, support staff, and students. This will include the use of formal appraisal documentation in line with those agreed on by the section/department/facility
  • Conducting daily or periodic checks and calibration of equipment. Recognize report and advice on discrepancies in performance and initiate remedial action in the light of this information. To ensure that the equipment is used in the correct manner to obtain optimum results
  • Informs supervisor of equipment malfunction and/or need for repair. Documenting all testing procedures
  • Maintaining a necessary inventory of supplies for assigned room or work station, rotation of stock in an orderly fashion, and eliminating outdated items
  • Reporting shortage of materials to supervisor at earliest convenience, ordering and approving replenishments when necessary
  • Maintaining cleanliness of equipment and operating room and ordering all equipment and supplies for any subsequent use, taking into consideration general facility hygienic and sterilization rules and regulations
  • Travel with the patient wherever required in and out of UAE for treatment
  • Can be required to interpret if bilingual

Qualification

Required:

  • BSc in Occupational Therapy

OR

  • Graduate from an accredited Diploma course in Occupational Therapy (NLT 3 years syllabus)

OR

  • Membership in a recognized international agency
  • and Current National License

Desired:

  • Master’s in the relevant clinical-related field. (will reduce 1 year from the required years of experience.
Experience:

Required:

  • 4 years post graduate experience as an Occupational Therapist in relevant experience with Pediatric patients with same diagnosis seen in acute care hospital or Rehab Facilities. 1 year demonstrated leadership
