Section Head – Cardiovascular Critical Care (Transplant & Mechanical Circulatory Support)
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s Critical Care Department, within the Integrated Hospital Care Institute (IHI), is seeking a consultant-level Leader in Cardiovascular Critical Care with proven expertise in heart and lung transplantation and mechanical circulatory support (MCS) including ECMO, VADs, and Impella. The role will report to the Chair of Critical Care, and Dr. Jose L. Diaz-Gomez, Chief of the Integrated Hospital Care Institute.
Opportunity
- Lead advanced CVICU care for pre- and post-op cardiac, MCS, and thoracic transplant patients, ensuring high standards of care 24/7
- Collaborate with Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery, Heart & Vascular Interventional, Anesthesiology, and multi-professional ECMO teams
- Drive clinical excellence, education, and research within the IHI’s HERO framework ( High-reliability, Efficiency, Risk mitigation, and Outcomes)
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Board-certified in Critical Care ( with a background in cardiology, emergency medicine, internal medicine, or cardio-thoracic anesthesiology desirable)
- Board-certification or proficiency in Advanced Transesophageal Echocardiography and Critical Care Echocardiography.
- Formal training or significant experience in all aspects of MCS and heart/lung transplant pathways.
- Strong record of multidisciplinary teamwork, education, and scholarly contributions.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality improvement, team building, and patient-centered outcomes.
Experience Requirements
- For Physicians from Tier 1 countries, not less than two (2) years additional experience post qualification
- For Physicians from Tier 2 countries, not less than five (5) years additional experience post qualification
- Must hold a valid License/ Registration to practice in their home country and/or country of last employment (where applicable)
- Should meet the Maintenance of Certification requirements (where applicable)
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a team of health care professionals
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and staff
- Ability to speak and write in English is required
- Ability to speak and write in both English and Arabic is preferred
Education Requirements
MD, MBBS, MBChB or DO (only if the specialization is obtained from one of the following: American Board of Medical Specialties or Certificates of Specializations of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada) or equivalent qualification from an accredited Institution and completion of specialty qualification as per the Recognized Specialty Certificate table listed in Healthcare Professionals Qualification Requirements 2024
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Typical physical demands include a moderate degree of dexterity to produce materials on a computer and mobility sufficient to attend meetings in clinical Departments throughout CCAD.
