Job Description

Plans, organizes, coordinates the activities of decontamination, cleaning, assembling and packaging sterile processing and the storage and distribution of supplies utilized in patient care areas both in-patient and out-patient.

Responsibilities

3.1 Performs all managerial function of CSSD.
3.2 Establishes and ensures the implementation of CSSD policies and procedures.
3.3 Ensures instruments and equipment are cleaned and decontaminated according to established guidelines
policies and procedures.
3.4 Directs and supervises activities relating to the operation of washer/disinfectors and other related equipment.
3.5 Ensures instruments sets are standardized, sterilized and in good working condition according to hospital
policies and procedures.
3.6 Prepares duty rotas, assigns tasks and duties of CSSD staff.
3.7 Develops and coordinates with the Education Department in the orientation of new staff according to
orientation program and hospital policies and procedures.
3.8 Assesses CSSD supply needs and establishes a standard CSSD inventory.
3.9 Monitors documents and reports effectiveness of sterilizers.
3.10 Notifies appropriate departments of malfunction of equipment or lack of supplies.
3.11 Develops, coordinates and participates in routine educational programs and staff meeting to facilitate
professional growth and quality patient care.
3.12 Monitors compliance with policy and procedure.
3.13 Coordinates with the PI Nurse for any PI activities.
3.14 Any other assigned responsibilities on a need basis as identified by the Nursing Administrator.

3.15 Comply with all OSH and infection control policies, standards and procedures and cooperate with hospital
management to comply those requirements
3.16 Work accordance with the documented OSH procedures and instructions, specific responsibilities
3.17 Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures
3.18 Notifying OSH Hazards, incidents, Near misses and issues and assistance with the preparation of risk
assessments, incident reports
3.19 Comply with Waste management procedures and policies
3.20 Attend applicable OSH/Infection control training programs, mock drills and awareness programs
3.21 Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems

Qualifications

4.1 Certification of training from an approved institute of CSSD technicians or Diploma in Nursing.
4.2 Required experience 2 years in relevant area in absence of formal course.
4.3 Must be fluent in spoken and written English, Arabic speaking desirable but not essential.
4.4 Demonstrates good organizational and communication skills.
