Principal Engineer – Power Electronics

ADVANCED CONCEPTS is an entity within EDGE dedicated to the design and deployment of advanced, innovative technologies. ADVANCED CONCEPTS is fast-tracking the development of high-technology autonomous systems, including three Medium Endurance, High Altitude, fixed-wing unmanned aerial systems, a family of precision loitering munitions, a cost- effective family of cruise missiles, and a range of guided artillery munitions.

Core Accountabilities:

  • Define and implement technical roadmaps for power electronics and hardware design.
  • Provide strategic direction for integrating simulation tools, circuit design, and prototyping workflows to drive innovation in system development.
  • Lead the design and optimization of advanced DC-DC converters, inverters, and motor drives for high-efficiency applications.
  • Drive advanced topologies tailored for energy management, high-performance devices, and compact designs.
  • Oversee circuit design and PCB development using Altium Designer, ensuring signal integrity, thermal efficiency, and manufacturability.
  • Utilize simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, and LTspice to model and analyze system behaviors.
  • Lead prototyping efforts, including validation of power systems and rapid iteration to meet system-level requirements.
  • Oversee machine design projects, integrating power electronics with motor systems and sensors for seamless operation.
  • Ensure cohesive operation of hardware, software, and control algorithms in electromechanical systems.
  • Conduct comprehensive testing of hardware and software systems, including hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulations and field testing.
  • Oversee the seamless integration of power electronics into larger systems, addressing electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), thermal performance, and reliability.
  • Develop and optimize advanced control algorithms for electric drives, including trapezoidal control, Field-Oriented Control (FOC), and Direct Torque Control (DTC).

Qualification / Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field. Advanced certifications or a PhD in Power Electronics is a plus.
  • 15+ years of experience in power electronics design, system integration, and validation, with a focus on high-performance systems.
