Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Support for Pupils

  • Provide pastoral care, focusing on students’ social and emotional well-being.
  • Work closely with the secondary school counsellor to offer daily emotional support.
  • Develop and lead Social Support Groups to enhance students’ social skills.
  • Create individualised Behaviour Support Plans in collaboration with teachers and parents.
  • Conduct assessments to identify triggers and underlying challenges.
  • Provide 1:1 mentoring and support for pupils experiencing distress.
  • Assist in transition periods and reintegration of students after absences.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies and teach coping/self-regulation skills.
  • Intervene in crisis situations, using calming techniques and conflict resolution.
  • Monitor student progress, collecting data to assess intervention effectiveness.
  • Support the school behaviour system, maintaining a strong presence during transitions and breaks.

Support for Teachers

  • Help students prepare for learning using appropriate strategies and resources.
  • Contribute to lesson planning to ensure emotional well-being is considered.
  • Provide feedback and reports on student progress, achievements, and behaviour.
  • Assist in record keeping and behaviour management documentation.
  • Build positive relationships with parents, keeping them informed and engaged.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Degree in Education, Child Psychology, Behavioural Science, or Child Development.
  • Experience supporting students with behavioural, emotional, and social difficulties.
  • Strong knowledge of behaviour management strategies and restorative approaches.
  • Understanding of child development, emotional literacy, and well-being initiatives.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Experience delivering 1:1 and small-group interventions.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and commitment to student welfare.
  • Excellent communication, de-escalation, and conflict-resolution skills.

Desirable

  • QTS/PGCE or National Professional Qualification for Leading Behaviour and Culture (NPQLBC).
  • Restorative Justice Training or Therapeutic Mentoring Certification.
  • Training in mental health first aid, trauma-informed approaches, or mindfulness.
  • Experience working in pastoral, SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health), or SEND roles.
  • Proficiency in Arabic (advantageous but not essential)
