GEMS Education is seeking a dynamic and visionary Librarian to lead the development of the Library at the GEMS School of Research and Innovation (SRI)—a new K–8 community in Dubai dedicated to research-based learning, interdisciplinary exploration, and student agency.
The SRI Library will be more than a book collection—it will serve as a hub for student inquiry, storytelling, digital research, and global connection. As the founding Librarian, you will play a key leadership role in designing and managing a vibrant, future-facing library that reflects the values and ambitions of our school.

Salient Responsibilities:
- Curate and manage a diverse and inclusive library collection that supports curriculum goals, independent inquiry, and global perspectives.
- Lead the development of student research, digital literacy, and ethical information use across the school.
- Partner with teachers to embed library resources into transdisciplinary learning experiences and project-based work.
- Design and implement reading and research programs, book clubs, author visits, and family literacy events.
- Oversee cataloguing, collection development, circulation systems, and digital library platforms.
- Guide and mentor the Library Assistant and student volunteers in supporting the library’s daily operations and outreach.
- Ensure the library is a welcoming, well-organised, and intellectually stimulating environment for all learners.
- Serve as a thought partner in SRI’s curriculum development and work closely with our Centres of Excellence and curriculum leads to align library services with broader school priorities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a school or educational library; experience in IB, IGCSE, or inquiry-based learning environments is a strong advantage.
- Deep knowledge of children’s and young adult literature, information literacy frameworks, and library technologies.
- Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail in managing resources and systems.
- Collaborative and proactive, with a passion for fostering a love of reading and research in young people.
- Confident in using library software, digital tools, and multimedia platforms to enhance the learning experience.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a warm, student-centered approach.
- Eager to contribute to a school environment that values creativity, sustainability, inclusion, and innovation.
- Familiarity with library software and confidence using digital tools and basic office applications.
- Organised, reliable, and capable of working independently and as part of a team.
- A genuine passion for children’s and young adult literature, reading, and inclusive education.
