Occupational Health and Safety Officer

Job Description

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Occupational Health and Safety Officer in Dubai.

The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing the highest standards of health, safety, and compliance in accordance with the requirements of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), Dubai Civil Defence, and Dubai Municipality. The primary objective is to ensure a completely safe environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities – Mandatory for Inspections:

Emergency Plans: Develop, implement, and conduct periodic staff training on fire evacuation procedures every term, including lockdown and shelter-in-place drills.

Periodic Inspections: Conduct monthly inspections of emergency exits, fire extinguishers, CCTV systems, assembly points, playgrounds, laboratories, and school buses.

Regulatory Compliance: Ensure ongoing compliance by maintaining Civil Defence No-Objection Certificates (NOCs), municipal permits, and the KHDA safety file.

Training: Conduct training sessions for teachers, students, and staff on first aid, fire extinguisher usage, and evacuation procedures for individuals with special educational needs.

Reporting and Incidents: Document all accidents and near-miss incidents within the school system, conduct root cause analyses, and submit comprehensive monthly reports to school management.

Visits and Inspections: Coordinate and facilitate inspections by Dubai Civil Defence and the KHDA; prepare all required documentation, including risk assessments, COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations, and safety records.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field. NEBOSH IGC or IOSH Managing Safely certification (NEBOSH preferred).

Trainer certification from Dubai Civil Defence, or a willingness to obtain it within three months.

At least three years of experience in schools, hospitals, or educational institutions.

Thorough familiarity with the regulations of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) and the Dubai Brain Research Authority.

Proficiency in both English and Arabic is a mandatory requirement.

Valid UAE driving license.
