GMS is looking to hire an experienced Senior Accountant to join our Finance team within the maritime industry. This role is focused on revenue recognition and financial accuracy across a complex global operation.
You’ll play a key part in managing revenue-related accounting, supporting audits, and partnering with operational teams to ensure our financial data reflects business performance accurately and on time. This position requires strong technical accounting knowledge and a sharp eye for detail.
Key Responsibilities:
Revenue Recognition
- Apply and uphold revenue recognition policies in line with applicable accounting standards
- Analyze contracts and commercial agreements to determine correct revenue treatment
- Monitor and validate revenue entries to ensure accuracy and compliance
Financial Analysis and Reporting
- Perform detailed financial analysis to identify variances and potential misstatements
- Support month-end and quarter-end close processes with relevant journal entries
- Prepare reports related to revenue and deferred revenue activity
Billing and Contract Review
- Review charterer invoices for accuracy and completeness
- Ensure charter party agreements align with revenue recognition rules
- Reconcile bunker consumption data and associated entries
Forecasting and Budgeting
- Assist with revenue forecasts and budget preparation
- Provide insight and recommendations based on revenue trends and analysis
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Operations and other departments to verify revenue accuracy
- Address internal queries on revenue matters and resolve discrepancies promptly
Audit and Compliance
- Prepare supporting documentation for internal and external audits
- Participate in audit walkthroughs and testing as needed
- Maintain clear documentation of revenue policies and transactions
Process Improvement and Training
- Identify opportunities to streamline revenue processes
- Conduct internal training on revenue compliance and best practices
- Stay up to date on accounting guidance and changes in regulations
General Duties
- Perform ad hoc financial analysis or projects as required
- Take on additional tasks as delegated by the Finance leadership team
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA) preferred
- Minimum 5–7 years of accounting experience, preferably in the maritime or logistics sector
- Solid understanding of IFRS or US GAAP revenue recognition standards
- Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment
