Job Description

We are looking for a Projects & Fixed Asset Senior Accountant to manage project accounting, CAPEX and fixed asset accounting for our client in the UAE.

This role requires strong hands-on experience in project and fixed asset accounting, CAPEX management, WIP tracking, capitalization, depreciation, reconciliations and financial reporting, with a strong understanding of IFRS and financial governance requirements.

This role will start on a 6-month contract basis that is highly renewable depending on performance. It will report to the Transactional Accounting Head in the Finance – Accounting & Tax department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage project accounting and CAPEX, including recording, classifying, monitoring and reconciling project-related expenditures against approved budgets.
  • Validate project costs, advances and commitments in line with accounting policies and IFRS requirements.
  • Monitor actual versus budgeted CAPEX and prepare variance analysis for Finance and Project Management teams.
  • Track Work-in-Progress (WIP), project closures and completion documentation to support timely and accurate capitalization.
  • Apply IFRS requirements for project cost capitalization, borrowing costs and asset recognition.
  • Process capitalization of completed projects and transfer balances from WIP to fixed assets.
  • Maintain and update the Fixed Asset Register (FAR), including asset additions, disposals, transfers and impairments.
  • Manage the accounting treatment of asset disposals, retirements, write-offs and replacements.
  • Support physical asset verification and tagging and reconcile results against the Fixed Asset Register.
  • Perform regular reconciliations between the FAR, General Ledger and CAPEX reports.
  • Prepare fixed asset, project and CAPEX schedules for monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing reconciliations, schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Work with Financial Control and Tax teams to ensure consistent accounting treatment and accurate financial reporting.
  • Maintain appropriate controls over project accounting, capitalization and asset management, including adherence to Delegation of Authority requirements.
  • Identify control gaps, process risks and non-compliance issues and recommend improvements.
  • Support ERP enhancements, automation and process improvement initiatives relating to project and fixed asset accounting.
  • Work closely with Procurement, Treasury, Operations, Project Management, Financial Control and Compliance teams to ensure accurate CAPEX reporting and timely project closure.

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration or a related field.
  • Professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA, CMA or equivalent is preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in project accounting, fixed asset accounting and financial reporting.
  • Strong hands-on experience in end-to-end project and fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, impairment and disposal.
  • Strong experience in CAPEX accounting, WIP tracking, project closure and asset transfers.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS, particularly IAS 16, IAS 23 and IAS 36.
  • Experience maintaining and reconciling Fixed Asset Registers and General Ledgers.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP/financial systems such as SAP or Oracle.
  • Experience working across multiple entities or subsidiaries is preferred.
  • Strong experience working with Procurement, Operations, Project Management and Financial Control teams.
  • Good understanding of financial controls, audit requirements and governance frameworks.
  • Strong analytical and reconciliation skills, with attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Experience supporting ERP enhancements, automation or accounting process improvement initiatives.
