Senior Accountant (Fixed Term Contract)

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Entity Setup and Systems

  • Establish the accounting framework for each newly launched entity, covering chart of accounts, cost center structure, opening balances and consolidation mapping.
  • Define and document accounting policies, close procedures and the monthly close calendar, and apply them consistently across all entities.

General Ledger and Month End Close

  • Own the general ledger for all operating entities, including journals, accruals, prepayments, provisions and period-end adjustments.
  • Deliver the month-end and year-end close to the agreed calendar and produce entity-level trial balances and financial statements.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register, including additions, disposals and depreciation, with particular attention to the leasing fleet and real estate assets.
  • Prepare and reconcile intercompany balances and recharges, resolving differences before close.

Reconciliation and Financial Control

  • Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring every account is substantiated and aged items are cleared.
  • Complete bank reconciliations across all group accounts, investigate unreconciled items to resolution, and escalate control weaknesses arising from the pace of entity launch.
  • Review the work of the Accountant, Payables and Receivables for accuracy and correct treatment, without assuming payment authorization.

Banking, Reporting and Audit

  • Act as the day-to-day contact for the group’s banking partners on account opening, mandates, facilities documentation and service issues.
  • Maintain the daily cash position and prepare short-term cash forecasts to support funding decisions.
  • Prepare payment files and supporting documentation for authorization by approved signatories, without holding release authority.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
  • Professional qualification essential: ACCA, CPA, CA or CIMA. Part-qualified candidates with substantial relevant experience will be considered.

Work Experience

  • Minimum six years of accounting experience, including at least two at Senior Accountant level or equivalent.
  • Demonstrable experience closing the books for multiple legal entities within a group structure. Core requirement.
  • Experience setting up the finance function for a new entity or startup business is strongly preferred.
  • UAE experience essential, with a working understanding of local statutory reporting and audit requirements.

Technical Competencies

  • Strong working knowledge of IFRS applied in a multi-entity environment, including consolidation mechanics and intercompany elimination.
  • Proven ability to build a chart of accounts and close process from a blank sheet.
  • Advanced Excel and hands-on ERP experience (Oracle, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics or equivalent), including implementation exposure.

Skills & Personal Attributes

Any other duties as required by management based on the needs of the business.

Operates with limited supervision and no technical support layer above the role, sustaining close discipline while several businesses launch at once.

Strong written and verbal communication in English. Arabic is an advantage.
